Climate and Weather
Shanghai enjoys the marine monsoon climate of the subtropical zone, with both warm and moist weather, its annual average temperature is 16 degrees and the amount of precipitation is 1,100 mm. There are four distinct seasons in Shanghai. July is the hottest month in the year, with a daily average temperature of 28 degrees. January is the coldest month in the year, with a daily average temperature of about 3 degrees.

The best times to visit Shanghai are in spring or autumn. One thing to mention is what is called the Mei-Yu Season which in English is the 'Plum Rain Season'. This lasts for about a month commencing in early summer when the plums ripen along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. From late August and through the first twenty days of September, typhoons can bring heavy rain in their wake.

Local Festivals and Folk Custom
Colorful festivals and celebrations dot the yearly Shanghai activities calendar, such as the Shanghai Nanhui Peach Blossoms Festival, Shanghai International Tea Culture Festival and Shanghai China International Art Festival. On every Spring Festival Eve, local people swarm to Longhua Temple to toll the bell to celebrate the coming New Year. The Shanghai International Tea Culture Festival is held during April. In May there is the International Dragon Boat Race in the Qingpu District.

Time: Evenings on September 30th, October 3rd
Place: Pudong Century Park
Activities: Show of musical fireworks by masters from all parts of the world.
