Sanya's folk weaving has been enjoying a long history and well known either home or abroad. It includes roughly the cloth weaving and the bamboo weaving. Cloth weaving is represented by cotton weaving by Li covers, bags and skirts, all known for elaborate patterns and colorful figures. Bamboo strips need be processed in many operations including scraping and polish before they can be woven into delicate handicrafts of different shapes serving different purposes.

Sanya's folk art is represented by songs and dances of Li people and Miao people. Their dancing poses all originated from the basic motions for hunting and farming while the accompanying melodies all originated from local folk ballads.

Li people and Miao people enjoy singing and dancing very much . Upon an abundant harvest the Spring Festival or the March 3 Festival , people with all their whole families gather in an opens field next to their villages , lighting up torches and dancing with accompaniment of gongs in various formations such as deer hunting , turning-back deer or coco shell. A dance named Jumping over Bamboo was awarded China's Excellent Dance and classified under China's repertoires of minority nationalities.

The folk artists carve legendary characters out of coco-shell and seashells, each telling you a moving story.

Backed by green hills and neighboring the vast sea, Sanya is a garden-like city embellished by coco trees. In the Nanhan Cultural Sightseeing Zone, some elaborate sculptures with theme on ecology and Buddhist culture are on display ; in the End of the Earth Sightseeing Zone, erect a group of well-know historical characters ,listening to the murmuring sea; the vivid sculptures erecting in the Turning- backing Deer Park seem to be telling a moving love story . The Yalongwan Central Square holds a group of sculptures and a modern garden-like square which won a Lu Ban Prize (Lu Ban is the originator of China's woodwork ). Sanya teems with too many wonderful things , too many to pay a close look at each of them .

In Sanya, ocean safety is very important. Most of the resorts will advise guests by flags with different colors. If advised not to swim, please do not go. Please note that the hotels are not providing a safe guard, so swimming, as in most places around the world, is at your own risk.

Money
Exchange service is available in most of the hotels and all banks. The exchange rate fluctuates with international market conditions.

Please note you can change money only in the hotels you stay and you need to show your passport. And the kind of changeable currency is limited. Also, and extremely important - Chinese banks are extremely fussy about the condition of any currency. They refuse to accept any foreign currency that is even very slightly torn, marked, written on, or defaced in any way. Any sticky tape on notes will also result in them being refused for exchange. So do ensure that you only bring pristine foreign currency paper notes.
