Brief Introduction to Dali
Dali is situated in the northwest of Yunnan and at the intersection of the Yunnan-Burma Highway and Yunnan-Tibetan Highway. It covers a total area of 11,380 square miles with a total population of 3,063,000, of which minority nationalities make up 1,553,000. The Bai people account for 33.2 percent of the total population and other minority nationalities, composed of the Yi, Hui, Naxi, Miao, Lisu, make up a total of 16 percent.
   
 
Dali is an ancient city with a history of more than a thousand years. Within and around the city, there are many relics and places of historical interest. It was once the capital city of Nanzhao regime and Dali Regime in the ancient China and the political, economical and cultural center for 500 years during the Tang and Song Dynasties. It is an important gateway of cultural exchange and trading with southeastern Asian countries, and an important pass of the ancient "Silk Route of the South". It also has long enjoyed the reputation of "a land of letters".
 
Dali is also celebrated for its scenic beauties of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake. And also, Dali enjoys a very high fame for its "Four Grand Scenes", namely, Xiaguan's wind, Shangguan's flowers, Cangshan's snow and Erhai's moon. Especially Xiaguan's wind, which impresses people so deeply, makes Xiaguan such a place that you should go if you pay a visit to Dali.
 
The annual average temperature is 59 degree Fahrenheit. The climate is pleasantly spring-like all the year round. It becomes a well-known place of interest because of the beautiful scenery, varied traditions and the culture of minority nationalities.
