Getting There
By Air
You can arrive at Kunming first, then take the flight to Dali. The flight from Kunming to Dali is available everyday and the flight takes about 30 minutes.
By Train
You can arrive at Kunming firsy and then take 6 to 8 hours by train from Kunming to Dali, and there are 8 lines of buses at the train station to Dali straightly. There are 4 trains from Kunming to Dali every day and one is in the day and the others are at night.
By Long Distance Bus
Bus from Kunming bus station costs 67 Yuan , and will bring you to Dali new town. Check with the driver if he stops at Dali oldtown or Xiaguan. From there you must take the local No.8 bus to Old Dali. Buses coming south from Lijiang stop outside the old town, from where it is possible to get a taxi to the main guesthouses
There are 3 long distance bus stations in Xiaguan of Dali. The biggest bus station of Dali is located in the No21 Jianshe Road. Most long distance express bus all start from here. There is a luxurious Waiting room. Tel: 0872-2123436 Kefu Bus Station is the second largest bus station here. There are express buses to many places.
Dayun Bus Station locats at the Jianshe Road and is near the Dayun Hotel. The cheapest ticket to Kunming is 50 Yuan.
Xiaguan Bus Station has the bus to Li Jiang and Zhongdian. There are one bus to Lijiang every half an hour and the latest one is 6:30, the price of which is 38 Yuan and takes 3 and and a half hours to arrive there.
Getting Around
Taxi
The taxi service in Dali is very convient. The flag-fall price which covers the first 3 kilometres of a trip is 5 yuan. 1.4 yuan is added per kilometers.
Bicycle
Bicycle is a good choice of traveling in Dali. You can rent it on Bo’ai Road , Dali Old Town, and the price for rental is about 10-12 yuan a day.
Boat
If you want to enjoy the beautiful sight of Dali, you can take boat at the Erhai dock which lies in the north of Xiaguan.
