Popular Activities Night Cruise on Xin'an River The Xin'an River was regarded as the "Mother River" of ancient Huizhou (today's Xidi and Hongcun areas), which was extremely prosperous in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, when its streets were filled with businessmen from around the country. The river has a long history and it has nourished the local culture for centuries. The river is characterized by clear water, cool breeze and mystical mist which veil the river even during the clean summer nights. The night scenery of Xin'an River is very nice. In the evening, both the banks are colorfully lit accompanied. It is full of passengers, the luxurious stylish double-decked yachts, beautifully decorated pleasure boats and speed boats shuttle to and fro on the river, like playing happy melodies all together. Huangmei Opera, a distinctive local performing art will be showed at the cruise boat. The route from Laoda Bridge to the Suspended Bridge is one of the night cruise highlights. Along the way, you can enjoy the brightly city scenery on the river banks, view the mist-capped river scenery and feel the cool breeze off of that river.
