Climate and Weather
Hangzhou is in the south of the Yangtze River and has a mild and moist weather, with 4 distinct seasons. Average temperature in summer is 28.6 C (83.5 F), 3.8 C (38.8 F) in winter. Generally, spring starts in March; April and May are the best seasons for visiting with the average temperature between 9-15 C. June, July, and August are the rainy season with frequent showers. The end of June to the early July marks the start of the Meiyu (raining) Season. In early August, typhoons often occur, bring heavy rain. September and October feature excellent weather when clear skies and bracing air can be enjoyed almost every day. In winter, it is cold and snows sometimes.

West Lake Expo
Time : The middle ten days of October every year West Lake Expo starts since 1929, known as a famous international expo together with “"Chicago Expo 1893" "Paris Expo 1900" and "Philadelphia Expo 1927". After 71 years, Hangzhou hosts the West Lake Expo every year since 2000. It is very welcomed by the tourists and the public. Till now, it is continuously hosted three times. Now, more than 40 activities are held every year including exhibitions, trade activities, forums, performance etc.
China International Qiantang Tide Watching Festival
Time: The middle ten days of September every year During this tourist-friendly festival, one of the largest in China, visitors arrive to appreciate the great spectacle of the Qiantang River Bore. The bore is a unique natural phenomenon triggered by the pull of the moon. When the tides come in, a wave is produced so large that it surges several meters high. Every year this magnificent wonder draws thousands of tourists from all over the world.
West Lake Osmanthus Festival
Time: The middle ten days of September every year Sweet osmanthus is the city flower of Hangzhou, the government has decreed that each year during September when osmanthus blooms, Hangzhou citizens host the West Lake Osmanthus Festival. The sites of the celebration are usually in Man Long Gui Yu Park, Man Jue Long Village, and Hangzhou Arboretum. The Festival combines "ostmanthus culture" and "tea culture" together. Appreciating osmanthus and the food made of osmanthus, drinking tea, watching shows and painting exhibitions are the main activities during the festival. West Lake Ostmanthus Festival often lasts for about one month.
West Lake International Fireworks Festival
Time: During the West Lake Expo every year West Lake International Fireworks Festival is an important event of West Lake Expo which has a scene of bustle and excitement in the evening. Thousands of people sit around the West Lake to wait for watching the fireworks show.
Hangzhou Lantern Festival
Time: The 15th day of the first lunar month Lantern Festival is a traditional festival in China. The festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month which is the end of the Chinese New Year celebration. During the night, there are bright lanterns and lights shining at every house; men and women, old and young celebrate the festival with jubilation. The common activities include lantern exhibition, lantern riddles and dragon lantern performance etc. Wuling Square, He Fang Street and West Lake bank are the preferable gathering places.
Dragon Well Tea Festival Time: April-May
The annual Dragon Well Tea Festival, hosted by Dragon Well Village, attracts people from everywhere to take part in activities such as picking tea, drinking tea, enjoying a tea ceremony, and walking in the countryside.
West Lake Lotus Festival
Time: July-August The main activities of this festival include viewing the beautiful lotus, picking lotus seed pods, shelling lotus seed, watching folk drama performances, and visiting the lotus exhibition. The host area is one of the scenic spots of West Lake, Qu Yuan Feng He.
