Soong Ching Ling's Former Residence and Mausoleum
|
Soong Ching Ling, the honorary chairwoman of the People's Republic of China, had lived and worked in her shanghai residence since 1948. On May 29, 1981, she moved to Beijing at 90. She was first buried in the International Cemetery in the Soong Family graveyard on Hongqiao Road, Shanghai. Later the graveyard was extended and built into a mausoleum. The mausoleum, located in Hongqiao, contains photos from all phases of her life. In front of her tomb is the memorial square, in which a marble statue of Soong Ching Ling was erected. On a granite memorial tablet is carved the inscription by Deng Xiaoping: 'Eternal glory to Comrade Soong Ching Ling, a patriot, a democrat, an internationalist and a communist fighter'.
