Site of the 1st National Congress of the Communist Party
As a renowned historical attraction of Shanghai, the site of First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, located at No.76 Xingye Road, it has been listed as a key relic under state protection. On July 23, 1921, the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held here. The congress passed the Party's program and resolutions, elected the central committee, and declared the founding of the CPC.
In 1999 the city government conducted reconstruction of the memorial hall at the site. The new memorial hall is 12-m high with 2 stories at the front and 3 stories at the back. On display are photos of the delegates to the Founding of the Communist Party of China, First National Congress, several hundreds of precious relics, documents and photographs. Young Comrade Mao Zedong, holding a paper in his hand, is standing in the middle. It reproduces the historical scene of the day when the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China was taking place.
