Huangguoshu Waterfall
World-famous Huangguoshu Waterfall, known as "the first waterfall in China", is located on the Baishui River, one of the headstreams of the Dabang River in the Zhenning Bouyei-Miao Autonomous County southwest of Guizhou. The waterfalls, which were formed in the subtropical karst limestone region, are named as "Karst Waterfall". Among them, the Huangguoshu Waterfall is the grandest one with a flow of more than 700 cubic meters of water per second and huge amounts of water seem to be pouring from the sky. Measuring 81 meters wide, with a drop of 74 meters, the fall is the largest of this kind in China, the largest waterfall in Asia and one of the most magnificent waterfalls in the world. It has been found that the falls in this area consist of 18 falls on the ground and 4 falls underground.

Like the Milky Way descending from the heaven, the Huangguoshu Waterfall rushes down to the Xiniu pond, splashing foams up by 100 meters, and roars can even be heard several kilometers away. With typical karst topography, the area around the Huangguoshu Waterfall has a cluster of fascinating water-eroded caves. The "Fairy Dragon Cave," as one of the most interesting among all the caves, is located four kilometers upstream from the waterfall. It also used to be a military base for the local ethnic groups so some military relics still remain.

The three-layer Waterfall of Dripping-water Pool with the greatest drop of water in elevation is located 7 kilometers west of the Huangguoshu Falls. Here two grand and imposing peaks stand facing each other. The River Valley of Baling looks as if hanging upon the Guansuo Mountain in the west and swoops straight down from the entrance of the sky-piercing shuangfeng gorge. Cutting across the mountain ranges from west to east, it results in a multi-tiers waterfall with a total drop of water in elevation of over 410 meters. The upper tier with mountainous waves is named "Heaven-reaching Waterfall". The middle tier, 140 meters tall, is called "Chongyuan Waterfall". And the lower tier, 130 meters tall and often visible, has the name of "Waterfall of Dripping-Water Pool".

In the dry season, the Waterfall hangs over the sharp cliffs, swaying like countless silvery chains and plunging into the magic lake as though they were silvery dragons. The most fascinating is the 12 meters high water-screen cave endowed with 6 cave windows, 5 yards, 3 springs and an inner waterfall. One can stroll around the cave, watching the outside waterfall through the windows.

The admission fee to Huangguoshu Waterfall involves two parts, one for the Waterfall Scenic Area and the other for the Tianxing Qiao Scenic Area. In peak season (from Mar. 1st to Oct. 31st), the admission fee for the Waterfall Scenic Area and Tianxing Qiao Scenic Area are 90 Yuan and 60 Yuan respectively. In off-peak season (from Nov. 1st to the end of Feb.), the admission fee is respectively 70 Yuan and 60 Yuan. Tourists can take coaches leaving from Anshun Railway Station, South Bus Station and North Bus Station to get to the scenic spot.
