From a bird's eye of view, the lake is shaped like an ear lied in the Dali Basin. It covers an area of 250 square kilometers with an altitude of 1972 meters. The water of the lake is as clear as crystal and called the beautiful jade lied in the mountains. In a sunny day, the crystal waters of Erhai Lake and the snow mantled Cangshan Mountain radiate with each other. Thus the scene was commonly described as "Silver Cangshan and Jade Erhai". Besides the lake, the islands, temples and villages around are also worth our visiting. By visiting the Xiaopituo, originally devoted to Bodhisattva Kwan-yin, you can experience and see the typical ancient Chinese Buddhist temple's unique architectural styles of its buildings' pointed eaves and decorations on this peninsular. If you are interested in the Bai culture and lifestyle, Golden Shuttle Island (Jinsuo Dao), and the nearby fishing community of Bai Minority would be nice choice. Nearby, the Erhai Lake Park was built to give tourists more convenience of watching the lake. When the spring comes, the park will be transformed into a wonderland of flowers like camellias, azaleas and primrose, and abundant exotic trees.
