Xidi Village is one of the most representatives of ancient Hui architectures. Built in Yuanfeng Period in North Song Dynasty (about 900 years ago), it is 8 km from Yixian county center, with 700 meters long and 300 meters wide. Xidi Village boasts 124 well-preserved dwelling houses and 3 clan temples dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In front of the village is a landmark, a glorious memorial archway in honor of a native, Hu Wenguang, who was a prefect governor in the Ming Dynasty.

With its delicate structure, elegant layout, beautiful decoration and deep culture content, the ancient building in Xidi Village fully demonstrates its rarity in ancient Chinese architecture. When you walking into any of these houses, you can find elegant courtyards and gardens, refined doorframes made of black marbles, stone carvings of flowers, birds and beasts, brick carvings of pavilions and human figures as well as wood carvings, colorful paintings and frescoes. Houses enjoy fine wood-carving, brick-carving and so on, reflect profound local culture and customs. It is called "the Land of Peach Blossom" or "Home in Wonderland" for its beauty and tranquility. It is also called "a treasure house of ancient resident architecture" for its well-preserved ancient houses and archways in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
As a cultural site, Xidi Village was added to the list of World Heritage by UNESCO in 2000.
