The Ruzi Pavilion lies in the center of West Lake, with a bridge leading to the bank. The Ruzi terrace was built in the Southern Tang Dynasty, and Mayor Xu Fang set up "a Hermit Temple" during the reign of Jiajing in the Ming dynasty. Xu Zhang built a pavilion north to the temple in memory of his ancestor, Xu Ruzi. "The Willows around the Pavilion" is one of "Ten Sceneries of Yuzhang".
Xu Ruzi, a Nanchang native, was the Nanzhou hermit in the East Han dynasty.
