The Five-official Memorial Temple was built in the Qing Dynasty in memory of five famous historiacal figures named Li Deyu, Li Gang, Zhao Ding, Hu Quan, and Li Guang who were successively exiled to Hainan Island during the Tang and Song dynasties (618-1279). It has beautiful surroundings and ancient trees. The Memorial Temple for the Five Officials is about 5 km away from the city proper. In Haikou they had done a lot of good deeds for the local people. The temple is a block of ancient buildings known as the First Cultural Relic in Hainan. To the east of the temple stands the Memorial Temple of Sugong, which was built to memorize the famous scholar and poet Sushi in the north Song Dynasty. There is a fountain named Fusu Fountain which was known as "the first in Hainan province".
