Gegentala means "bright pastureland" or "a camping area in summer or summer resorts" in Mongolianand. the Gegentala grassland is located 145km (90 miles) north of Hohhot. Due to its smooth and vast land, Gegentala grassland is a natural grazing ground for livestock.
Tourists can visit, take a horseback ride, camelback or big-wheeled horse-drawn carts, take part in the Mongol's traditional sports-wrestling, archery and horse-looping, visit herdsmen's horses, enjoy unique songs and dances, stay in a typical Mongolian yurt, taste the flavors of horse milk liquor and Mongolian barbecue, such as roast sheep legs, roast whole sheep. In the area opened for tourists, there is a yurt-shaped restaurant which can hold 200 people, a recreation hall, 30 traditional yurts and 30 brick yards equipped with TV and showers and can be listed in the same rank of a 1-star hotel. July and August are the best times to visit when the temperatures are mild and the grass is at its highest.
